As many of you know, FernLeaf has been working for several years on an ambitious campus expansion project designed to enhance FernLeaf's educational experience, improve the quality of life of local residents, and conserve precious natural resources for generations to come.
We are excited to share with you that we have officially broken ground on the new FernLeaf Wilderness Campus! Crews have begun preparing the site along with the main entrance drive that will be used to access our beautiful 93 acre mountain property just a mile from the current Creek Campus.
Overlooking the French Broad River Valley, the FernLeaf Wilderness Campus will feature more than two and half miles of hiking trails and a spectacular overlook of Mt. Pisgah and a silhouette of the Blue Ridge mountains. Incorporating elements of the natural world, the outdoor areas will include water, wind, and fire educational centers, multi-level deck seating, and a spider’s web network of walkways merging at the central fire pit - signifying & encouraging community; one of FernLeaf’s core values.
By marrying FernLeaf’s needs for additional facilities to accommodate our growth with the community’s needs for additional park space, trail networks, and land conservation, we are proud to be able to provide a remarkable campus that supports our educational approach while providing the community with an incredible resource.
Partnering with local experts Rueger Riley (architectural), Beverly-Grant (general contractor), Civil Design Concepts (civil engineering), Equinox Environmental (planning and consulting), and McGill Associates (mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineer), and HomeTrust Bank, and backed by the USDA Rural Development, FernLeaf is producing a one-of-a-kind educational facility for Fletcher, the State of North Carolina and the East Coast of the United States.
In addition to building an outstanding educational facility, the Wilderness Campus represents a once in a lifetime contribution to our community. FernLeaf is proud to take the lead on this significant project that supports education, creates recreational opportunities, and preserves important natural resources!
