Amber Burris
3rd Grade Teacher
Born and raised in Maine, Amber has grown up outside and adventuring. Her years attending
and counseling summer camp in Maine have played a key role in the person she is today. Her
journey towards becoming a teacher started when she was in fourth grade and her passion has
never wavered. She received her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a
specialization in English as a second language at the University of Maine. During her time
there she traveled to Italy to visit relatives and explore. That experience sparked a love of
languages, travel, and furthered her passion for learning. While in college Amber studied abroad
in England and was able to travel to 14 other countries and immerse herself in the many diverse
cultures.
Amber could not be more excited to continue her teaching journey. With four years of teaching
experience in second, third, and fourth grade in public schools, she is excited for the transition
to FernLeaf. Amber is passionate about creating positive learning environments for students
and cultivating a culture that encourages students to be good human beings. She is looking
forward to being at a school whose mission aligns so perfectly with hers.
From the first visit to Asheville, Amber fell in love with western North Carolina. Amber is excited
to move to the area with her partner Devanie, to be closer to his family. She cannot wait to
continue exploring and start this next chapter. When she isn’t teaching, you can find her
traveling, reading, running, at a concert, or spending time with friends and family.
