David Craig
Upper School Counselor
David's passion for counseling can be traced back to his start in undergraduate when it was learned he hadn’t had grammar courses growing up and was sent to the local high school to build additional skills in that area. In that venue he was utilized as a tutor and mentor for the high school students and enjoyed the experience enough to begin thinking of education as a possible career. He grew up in Tallahassee where he learned to love swimming, camping, the forests, hiking, a variety of music, and watching wildlife.
Following college, David had the opportunity to work with Hurricane Island Outward Bound and other outdoor education programs primarily with youth, and was able to explore his passion for working with others, helping others, being in the outdoors, and sharing a love of the outdoors, the skills for enjoying the outdoors as well as for successfully navigating group experiences. Those experiences prepared him to develop programs in the arena of outdoor education and later in education, with providing professional development as well as program development in schools. He finally landed at FernLeaf where he is happy to be a part of the amazing community and educational environment it provides for so many.
David is a graduate of Wake Forest University, where he majored in psychology, as well as graduating from Western Carolina University where he received his Master’s in Education for school counseling. When he is not busy with school counseling,he can be found with his family, building a treehouse or other project, hiking, reading, watching movies, or playing with his dogs.
