Evan Douglass

2nd Grade Assistant Teacher

Evan’s passion for education began at a young age. Reading books, going to school, and spending time exploring the woods behind his house were all at the top of his list of favorite things to do. With a penchant for thorough explanations, there was rarely a shortage of “what if” and “why” questions for his incredibly patient parents. Growing up in both Georgia and North Carolina, Evan was never far from the natural beauty and warm hospitality of the South. After attending college in Boone, he fell in love with the mountains of NC and has no plans to leave them any time soon.

As a graduate of Appalachian State University with a degree in psychology, Evan discovered the importance of taking care of oneself both physically and mentally in order to live a healthy life. Mindfulness became an indispensable practice that carried him through his studies and through his various jobs around campus. Whether it be at the campus bookstore, as an orientation leader, or when tutoring peers independently, these practices became a pillar of reducing stress and living enthusiastically.

In his free time, Evan enjoys cooking meals, drawing in his sketchbook, and staying active (both outdoors and in the gym). On any given day he can be found spending quality time with his loving girlfriend, Sayres, and their beautiful black cat, Mango! Working with FernLeaf marks a new chapter in Evan’s life; a chapter brimming with excitement and gratitude that he is optimistic to begin.
