Lisa Stepp

K-4th Grades Exceptional Children Teacher

As a child, Lisa spent much of her free time figuring out how things worked and wondering “what would happen if…”. As a result, and much to her mother’s dismay, she took apart toasters, radios, turntables, and the like. She also found out that absolutely no one appreciated her experiment to see what would happen if she drew on a Volkswagen with a handful of crayons on a hot summer day. That curiosity fueled an excitement for learning, eventually leading to a passion for teaching others.

Lisa grew up in and around Dallas, Texas. Her early career in education began in Texas. It was during that time she realized how much she loved experiencing another person’s joy and satisfaction after learning something new. After moving from Texas, Lisa continued her career at another western North Carolina charter school – beginning there at its inception and continuing for 17 years. Her roles there included 5th grade teacher, math support teacher, and EC teacher. She ended her years there as assistant principal and finally principal.

Lisa is a graduate of Baylor University where she majored in social work. She then received a degree in education from the University of Texas at Arlington and earned her master’s in curriculum and instruction from Western Governors University. In her free time, Lisa can be found cuddling with her furbaby, Cooper. Lisa also enjoys hiking, kayaking, and playing a mean game of Nertz.
