Michele Corral
1st Grade Teacher
Michele’s passion for being a 1st Grade Teacher can be traced back to her involvement working as a camp counselor and AmeriCorps volunteer experiencing nature and hands-on activities. She grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina but also experienced life through the lens of being a first generation Cuban-American.
Her heart has always been drawn to helping others and the environment. She felt especially inspired after serving two years in AmeriCorps in programs near Atlanta. In those programs, she worked in urban gardens, taught environmental lessons and shared nature with youth. After serving in those programs, she went on to earn her Bachelor's in Environmental Science with a Concentration in Policy and Management and a Minor in Economics at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She then went on to earn her teaching license in Elementary Education.
She began working as an educator in the Asheville area bringing her passion for environmental education and hands-on learning to the classroom. She is super excited to have landed at FernLeaf, where hands-on learning, project work and the environment are a valued part of our school mission. In addition to being a teacher, she is mom to Mila and Kaius and wife to Chris who are all also part of the FernLeaf community! When she is not busy being a teacher, she enjoys hanging out with her family, including her dog Gina! She also loves dancing, reading and swimming.
