Mike Hill
High School Math & Science Teacher
Mike has been an educator for all of his adult life, beginning as a whitewater rafting guide and sharing his knowledge of and passion for the forests and rivers of West Virginia, to teaching graduate students at the Institute of Textile Technology and University of Virginia in various STEM courses, to coaching and instructing on the baseball field and in the mountains of WNC, to teaching for nearly 25 years at the secondary school level.
Mike strives to show his students the applications of mathematics and sciences in everyday life, and his background in process engineering in the textile industry, and data-driven climate advocacy demonstrates that he puts his money where his mouth is.
Mike holds degrees from West Virginia University Institute of Technology, the Institute of Textile Technology, the University of Missouri, and the University of Virginia (B.S., M.S., M.S., Ph.D, respectively). When he is not busy with teaching, family, and his three daughters, Mike enjoys trail running, hiking, camping, birding, gardening, and reading.
