Sandra Medellin
Kindergarten Teacher
Sandra was born and raised in Mexico city until the age of 19 when she moved to Puebla city. Ever since she was a little girl she dreamed of becoming a teacher. Teaching became her passion. She started as a Spanish Kindergarten teacher in Mexico city in 1987, as soon as she finished her college education.
The love of recreation and outdoor activities made her decide to be a summer camp counselor at YMCA Camp Ihduhapi in Minnesota when she was 17. She worked there for 12 summers! She also got an English education degree in Puebla and started working at the American School of Puebla teaching English. She worked there 28 years before moving to the US in 2014 with her family.
She created and started the Spanish Immersion program at WD Williams Elementary
School and after 2 years she went back to Mexico with her family. In 2018 West
Buncombe Elementary School recruited her to start the Spanish Immersion program in Asheville. She taught Spanish to Kindergarteners there for 5 years until her J-1 VISA expired. In 2023 Fern Leaf sponsored her to become a member of their staff. She started teaching English here again. Sandra’s motto is to make learning FUN! She believes that children learn better if they enjoy the activities and feel happy.
Sandra is a very active and creative person. In her free time she likes to exercise, biking, playing tennis, hiking, taking zumba lessons, going to the gym and swimming. She also likes to spend time being in communication with her son Juan Carlos who studies college at BUAP and lives in Puebla, Mexico, and with her daughter Aileen who has a scholarship to study and play basketball for Morehead State in Kentucky.
