Travis Carter
Intervention Coordinator
Travis grew up in Miami among palm trees and strong coffee. He earned a Master's in Social Work from Florida International University in 2004 and followed his mother and grandmother's footsteps to become a Special Education Teacher that year. All those teacher planning days spent as a kid running through the halls of his mother's school made a lasting impression on him. He learned at an early age that justice work and education go hand in hand. In response to the growing needs of public schools, he would eventually work in education nonprofits to bring additional resources to the students and schools through Americorps.
More recently, he moved to Asheville to home school his youngest children through their preschool years. They have since started at FernLeaf. He enjoys gardening, kayaking, and cooking, but is most passionate about mentoring.
